Letter M Virtual Workshop

Hello Friends!  Sharing my virtual workshop series starting with the letter M.

In my virtual workshops I teach letters, sounds, and reading skills for Pre-K learners as well as children who struggle with speech and reading. The instruction provides multi-sensory and phonemic rhymes, songs, and hands-on activities with reading and writing suggestions for a total learning!

Let's enjoy teaching together!  Please comment what is working for you and your learner.

Letter M Phonemic Activity and Sorting Food

Today my preschoolers had a fun time reviewing the letter name and sound of M. In the Amazing Action Alphabet Flip Chart M the moose is munching on meatballs while making the sound m-m-m.

For a fun food related activity I gathered food items from around the house that started with the /m/ sound such as; milk, muffins, mustard, and meat.

I also gathered other food that didn't begin with the letter M. Then I asked my preschoolers to sort the food. The food that began with the letter M they could put on one dish and feed to the Moose. The food that did not begin with the letter M they put on another dish.

What a perfect sorting activity and a great way to review the letter M sound.

After this phonemic activity we read the first story in the Amazing Action Alphabet Beginning Reader Book!

Stuffed Animals Make a Great Preschool Teacher Assistant

In my Amazing Action Alphabet teaching world (my real job as mom is stellar, but more about that later:)) I'm always looking for props which help me teach letters and sounds to my sweet students.  Attention grabbers, funny things, or random objects around the house help me create that magical teaching moment when the student hangs with me for a moment...and learns!

Meet some new alphabet friends.  H the horse and M the moose are covered with stickers that have their beginning sound.

The children loved to run around the room huffing (making the /h/ /h/ /h/sound) and galloping with our horse.

M the moose was rubbing his belling many times making the /m/ /m/ /m/ sound.

What is your most recent attention grabber or teaching aid?  Today try a stuffed animal!  Anything to make these animals come alive is worth the effort.

Until next time friends!

M the Moose with his Mustache

Today at the Dollar Store I came across this...

I can't contain myself when I see mustaches. Seven for a buck!  Fun times ahead!

One hour and 12 minutes later...{because we were counting down the minutes until we could open these babies up}  I pulled out M the Moose from the AMAZING ACTION ALPHABET ACTIVITY BOOK and decided to work on the /M/ sound.

We colored here...

and colored there...

and cut two little slits here & here...{all directions and M the Moose page found HERE}

AND THEN...we were FINALLY ready to put on the MUSTACHE and Munch!

/m/ /m/ /m/ macaroni, /m/ /m/ /m/ milk, /m/ /m/ /m/ meat. /m/ /m/ /m/ muffin

At this point we had worked up an appitite with all the fuss about the mustache.  We decided to read one of my favorites...

by Margie Palatini

This Rapunzel length moostache makes for a hilarious story.  We tried to contain our self while we wore our mustaches.

{thanks RealSimple for the pic}
Moral of the story...you can learn anything when wearing a mustache! ;)

Many Healthy Munchies---with PIZZA!

A great healthy munchie is PIZZA!  Children can make their own pizza and learn  to count as well as learn their shapes.   Now who doesn't like pizza?!!

First, make an ingredient chart.

Second,  discuss the numbers on each section of your prepared paper pizza.  Use the shapes and match your numbers to make your Yummmmmy pizza!  Practice counting and recognizing shapes.

Third,  make your PIZZA!  Use pizza dough, sauce, cheese, and pepperoni to make your Healthy Munchie!

Mmmm, mmmm Good!

Many Healthy Munchies

We are having SO much fun with the letter M!  Don't forget that snack time can be a great time to reinforce shapes and art, not to mention getting a little energy for our next activity!  Today we made this cute little guy... our perfect healthy snack!

Head:  round Ritz cracker
Body:  square Graham cracker
Feet / Legs:  apple slices
Arms:  baby carrots
Eyes:  grapes cut in half
Hair:  string cheese
Extra:  Cheese Whiz

Making Muffins

Mmmmm...Making Muffins on "M" day!  This is an ideal opportunity for children to practice counting.  Plan to make some simple muffins.  Have each child count every ingredient you use. Everyone can take a turn stirring the batter 10 times.  Mmmmarvelous!

Along with making muffins you have to teach the song "Do you know the Muffin Man?"  How fun is that!?!  After your children get the tune down, reinforce teaching COLORS by switching up the words and sing---
Do you see the color (green)?
The color (green)
The color (green)
Do you see the color (green)
Somewhere in the room?
