Letter H Virtual Workshop

I love sharing my virtual workshop series!  Join me today while I use the Amazing Action Alphabet books to teach the letter and sound of H.

In my virtual workshops I teach letters, sounds, and reading skills for Pre-K learners as well as children who struggle with speech and reading. The instruction provides multi-sensory and phonemic rhymes, songs, and hands-on activities with reading and writing suggestions for a total learning!

Let's enjoy teaching together!  Please comment what is working for you and your learner.

Stuffed Animals Make a Great Preschool Teacher Assistant

In my Amazing Action Alphabet teaching world (my real job as mom is stellar, but more about that later:)) I'm always looking for props which help me teach letters and sounds to my sweet students.  Attention grabbers, funny things, or random objects around the house help me create that magical teaching moment when the student hangs with me for a moment...and learns!

Meet some new alphabet friends.  H the horse and M the moose are covered with stickers that have their beginning sound.

The children loved to run around the room huffing (making the /h/ /h/ /h/sound) and galloping with our horse.

M the moose was rubbing his belling many times making the /m/ /m/ /m/ sound.

What is your most recent attention grabber or teaching aid?  Today try a stuffed animal!  Anything to make these animals come alive is worth the effort.

Until next time friends!

Edible Snacks & Letter Review Ideas

Making snack time a learning experience can be a loads of fun in preschool.

A simple and edible way to review letters is to give a child pretzel sticks and ask them make various letters with the pretzels.  Don't you love the great ideas at the See Hear Do Company!

Have you heard of Cheez It Scrabble?  Yep!  Grab a box for the little ones today.  This looks like a hit from Activity Mom.

Using licorice to make letters and words is easy and fun too.  Thanks Miss Mancy.

Old McDonald Is At It Again!

Don't you just love an old tune that helps in learning new things!  Old McDonald is an oldie but a goodie!  Today I used this song to review letters and sounds.

Use a simple barn picture and place it in a sheet protector.  I made up this one, but there are plenty on line that you could use {like here} .  Just make sure the barn door is open and blank, making it easy to see letters that you want to review.

With a dry erase marker write a letter you want to review and sing...

"Old McDonald had a farm, E-I-E-I-O!
And on that farm he had an H, E-I-E-I-O!
With a /h/ /h/ here
and a /h/ /h/ there
here a /h/, there a /h/
everywhere a /h/ /h/!
Old McDonald had a farm, E-I-E-I-O!

Thank you Old McDonald wherever you are!  Now I have this song in my head ALL day!

Categorizing animal HABITATS

Even though we are focusing on farms I decided to set up a little play center with three different HABITATS.

I had some containers filled with random animals and the children could pick a container and see if they could find each animal's HOME.

I printed some pictures of different habitats, and I glued them to a paper towel roll to help them stay propped up.  (I know, the genius in me comes out!)

We had a Farm (of course ;))

We had an Ocean

And we had a Jungle

Now the real question is...what habitat do you belong?  Today sitting by the ocean sounds pretty nice!

H the Horse says /h/

Everyone came in cowboy attire today!  Hurray!  I think we really got down our letter H!

Using the Amazing Action Alphabet flip chart we reviewed H the Horse story.  We did a lot of huffing down the hill while practicing what H says... /h/ /h/ /h/!

Here is a video to show you how we practice the letter H.

H is for horse

It was art time again, and just LOVE using a simple hand print to reinforce an idea.  We have been practicing our letter H, and while listening to H the horse song on my Amazing Action Alphabet CD we drew a little horse of our own...

Hahahaha!
Isn't it just hilarious!  My favorite part is the little speech bubble with their new found letter H!

Farm Day...YeeHaw!

We've been having a little fun around here talking about the farm.  Today we focused on H the Horse.  I planned a review activity using some horseshoes. Here is a video to demonstrate a quick lesson to review H or lesson 6 with your students:

I set them up leading to our classroom.  As I took the children on our walk we followed the horseshoes and stopped at each one.

We turned each print over and found something we all could do or practice.  I included reading short words, recognizing letters, sounds and numbers, and doing simple activities.

The kids really loved it!
